Documents Checklist for India Visas
Common documents Malaysian applicants prepare for Indian visas — passport, photos, IC copies, tickets, and category-specific extras.
No single checklist covers every Indian visa category, but Malaysian applicants tend to reuse the same core file. Use this as a preparation sheet, then overlay the official list for your exact purpose of visit.
Core file (most categories)
- Valid passport with blank pages and enough remaining validity
- Recent colour photographs in the size and background specified on the form
- Passport biodata page photocopy
- Malaysian identity-card photocopy (both sides when applicable)
- Completed electronic application form printed or saved as instructed
- Confirmed flight itinerary or tickets when the category asks for them
- Hotel bookings or a host address in India written in full
Tourist extras
- Detailed referee addresses in Malaysia and India
- Birth certificate for minors, plus parental ID copies
- Employer letter if you are a journalist travelling under tourism rules that require it

- Event registration or meeting schedule
- Company profile documents when requested
Student extras
- Admission or bona fide letter
- Proof of funds or sponsor letters
- Academic transcripts
- Medical or police documents if the institute or category requires them
Employment extras
- Contract or appointment letter
- Sponsor company documents assembled by HR
- Dependent certificates (marriage, birth) when family accompanies you
Photo tips that save resubmissions
- Use a recent photo — not a cropped holiday snapshot
- Keep a plain light background
- Avoid heavy filters, uniforms that confuse identity, or shadows across the face
- Print extras; damaged prints cause counter delays
Digital hygiene
Scan every page before you leave home. Name files clearly (passport.pdf, invitation.pdf). Store offline copies of fee receipts and approval emails. If you use a travel agent, keep your own set — you remain responsible for accuracy.
